Monsoon season is upon us so join DesertPy this month for a Thunderstorm! What is a Thunderstorm you ask? It's a meeting consisting only of lightning talks!

    When
    Wednesday June 23rd, 2014 at 6:30PM
    Where
Isos Technology - 1130 E University Drive, #101, Tempe, AZ 85281 The Isos offices can be found on the south west side of the western building in the complex. Isos Tempe Location
    What

There won't be one big talk, but a bunch of smaller, fast paced talks on any number of Python related topics. Just show up for the fun. Better yet, show up with a python related lightning talk of your own. We will try to enforce a 5 minute limit per talk. More than one talk per person permitted.

    Recommendations:

    • If you use slides (which is recommended), do them in the IPython Notebook or export to a PDF.
    • Provide slides to me godber@gmail.com prior to the meeting to minimize laptop switching.
    • Make a comment on the Meetup event announcement that contains your topic, or topics, so we can avoid (minimize) duplication.

These are recommendations and not requirements. Don't let anything above discourage you from presenting.

Feel free to RSVP on the meetup site or fork this repo and add yourself to the RSVP list below and send a pull request.

  7. Monthly Meetings in 2014

Spring is upon us and change is in the air for DesertPy. First off, we are going to have monthly presentation based meetings for the rest of this year. These meetings will be on the same day of the month as usual, the fourth Wednesday. Tentatively the locations will be alternating between Gangplank in downtown Chander and the Isos Technologies office in Tempe (just East of Rural and University behind Chompies). Our first visit to Isos will be next week, March 26th, when I will wow you all with a demonstration of how I use IPython, mostly for data analysis purposes. Please RSVP on the Meetup event page.

What does that mean for our alternate month social gatherings at Boulders on Broadway? Well, we will have them occasionally, most likely on the second Wednesday of the month. The next one is already scheduled for April 9th. I hope to see you all there. Well, not all at once of course ☺, our usual table only seats about 15.

Lastly, Python 3.4.0 was released this week. In an effort to get us all up to speed, we are happy to announce that at each meeting for the rest of the year someone will give a lightning talk on one of the PEP's implemented by this release. By the way, that lucky 'someone' could be YOU! As always we are looking for community members to help give presentations, please contact me (Austin Godber, godber@gmail.com) if you are interested in giving a presentation.

Looking forward to another great year!
